Does lunch room seating help our school? Last year school official determined that students were getting into too many fights. A new rule was enforced. Staff assigned seats in the lunch room, requiring thats students have to sit with their teams. Last year when a group of sixth graders asked about the rule,staff members said the rule was to elimanate fights in the eighth grade lunch. This rule is punishing all students for bad behavior of few people. Durning your three years at Begich Middle School, you may never have your best friend in class and with this rule you can’t even talk at lunch. The staff assigns your team and you are not able to request being in class with friends. Teams are split up by academic performance and special programs. Students should be allowed to choose where they sit. Students should be able to talk with their friends and eat with them. Lunch is the only time students get to spend time with their friends that aren’t on their team. Students don’t have time to talk at passing times. How do you think the teachers would feel if in the lounge they could only talk to the teachers on their team.
